The two-day event on March 2 and 3 is set to draw a crowd of local and central government officials and representatives from business, culture, academia, nongovernmental organizations and the media.

Organisers describe the event as Europe’s largest forum for dialogue, cooperation and the exchange of best practices among local governments and other stakeholders in public life.

This year’s conference will be held under the theme "Local Government in Times of Uncertainty: Local Responses to Global Challenges."

Discussions will focus on the growing role of local authorities in responding to global crises such as climate change, migration and economic instability.

Organisers said local governments are increasingly acting as a first line of response to such challenges, given their proximity to residents and ability to identify community needs more quickly than central authorities.

They added that cooperation with civil society groups, businesses and other local governments can help strengthen community resilience and turn uncertainty into opportunities for development.

The programme features more than 250 events, including plenary sessions, panel discussions, debates, workshops and presentations.

Topics include politics and security; sustainable development; regional investment, economy and finance; society; health, digital governance and culture; recreation and tourism.

The conference is organised by the Institute for Eastern Studies, a Warsaw-based think tank.
